Potluck Etiquette

(Everything everyone is thinking, but afraid to say)

  1. If you want to participate, you must bring a dish.

  2. If you forgot about the potluck, thus didn't bring a dish, please don't ask if you can still eat.

  3. Unless there is a sign-up sheet listing paper products, bring a dish.

  4. Cheez Whiz is not a dish.

  5. Don't take double portions.  Remember, a potluck is sharing.

  6. Prepare your dish at home.  Don't wait for the potluck to start to throw together your dish.

  7. A 2-liter bottle of soda is not a dish.

  8. Don't get in line and make plates for "friends" who are running late.  First come, first served.

  9. Be cautious about food safety.  No one wants to spend their afternoon in the restroom.

  10. A bag of chips (In any flavor) is not a dish.

  11. Be courteous.  If you don't like something, don't eat it, don't mention it.

  12. Leftovers belong to whoever purchased the food.  The preparer may want to feed it to their family.

  13. Help clean up.  Unless someone "signed up" to clean up, It's everyone's responsibility.
